Writing the Comic

An excerpt of some plotlines for a comic

Writing five pages of comics in an evening can only result in great work, right?

I’m trying to write this comic in the same way that I wrote the first bit of it. Stream of consciousness silliness. But also since I haven’t worked on it in 12 (yikes) years, I also wanted to be sure that the story tied into what had already been written and didn’t feel too disjointed.

I read the comic through a couple times and tried while writing to tie the story back to the things that had already been created. Characters, little story arcs, everything. Ripped through it, trying to find an ending that fit the vibe. And I think that’s what I’ve got. It’s extremely simple and a little dumb, but the whole comic is, so I think that’s what it needed.

Now that the comic is written, what’s next?

Well, I already pencilled in the half-page that I needed to do (the one that was initially meant to be an ad), as a preview of the second half of the comic. Sort of an ‘in the next episode’ sorta promo. Next step will be to pencil in all the story beats that I wrote today. Will need to be pretty quick about it as there’s a lot left to do this month.

Once the story’s pencilled, I need to go back up and clean up a bit of the pencil work before I get into inks. Cause the pencil work is slooooooppy baby.

And will also need to draw, ink and colour the covers.

And get it printed.

Yeah, 25 days is looking like a short timeline now. Better get cracking!
